Beta 1.0.1 Update

written by mixdtv, on Sep 14, 2011 2:08:00 PM.

If you login to your mixd.tv app today, you will notice a small notification that there is an update available for you... This is one of our updates that we expect to roll out regularly, improving mixd.tv so that you have a better experience and so that any problems you report to us are fixed.

This release brings in some great little improvements:
  • When watching a channel, videos will play through one after the other as before, except now... the display will not dim, so just sit back and watch!
  • If the channel that you are trying to watch times out because the requests to the website fail or the network is patchy, you can now reload channels directly from the UI.
  • If all fails and you are sure that the channel is just broken or if you think the content should be different, we now have a way for you to let us know – directly from the channel! You can add a comment after clicking report to let us know exactly what the problem is.
  • Notifications about new videos have been improved too. In our last release, we found that some videos were being counted multiple times, so you might be told that there were 36 new videos on the Facebook channel, when in fact there were only 18.
  • Forgot your password? No problem! If you have a mixd.tv username and password and you have forgotten this, you can now request an e-mail for a temporary password. The e-mail will also include your username, just in case ;)
  • If you have a temporary password and want to change it back to something more memorable, you can now change your password from the settings page.
That’s it for this release. We hope that you are enjoying watching video from all over the web with mixd.tv!

Notifications Galore!

written by mixdtv, on Sep 7, 2011 2:23:00 PM.

Subscriptions are a central part of the mixd.tv application. If you are following playlists and channels you will receive notifications about all the new videos that are added to those items... though, since our release we have noticed that a few of our optimisations are not as optimal as we thought...

Our notifications will be fixed in the coming weeks!

So that you know exactly how many new videos there are for you to watch in a channel, we are going to make sure that our update makes the number in the notifications reflect the REAL number of new videos.

Also, we are always open to suggestions for great channels of content, so please let us know if you have any favorite YouTube/Vimeo/Other channels of content that we can add for you – we would be more than happy to get a few extra video sources in per release, so that you always get notified when there is something new for you.

A few interesting channels to look out for:

  • Facebook
  • The Facebook channel is the easiest way to just sit back and see what is being shared in your network. Many videos are lost in your news feed and some are not visible because friends of friends posted them on your friends walls... Not with mixd.tv, we show you all the things that are shared by and with your friends.

  • Tagesschau, Tagesschau 20H
  • If you want to keep up to date with the daily news in German, this is one for you!

  • Vimeo, Vimeo Staff Picks
  • Some of the best short videos and animations from the network (mainly English), Vimeo is know for quality all around – find academic creations as well as well as privately financed films and animations here.

  • MUZU.TV
  • For those who like music, MUZU.TV is a European project that aims to bring Music Videos to the masses. These channels (created by Genre) are great if you have a party and a projector, just click play and let mixd.tv do the rest!

  • Arte+7, Dokumentationen
  • If a good documentary is your kind of thing, then Arte has some great stuff! This channel is currently only available in German.

  • TWiT, This Week in Tech
  • A roundtable discussing the tech news of the week with Leo Laporte and Friends. Having just moved into an expensive new Studio, TWiT are now creating some of the highest quality material that can be found on the Web.

  • revision3, Foundation
  • An interview program hosted by Kevin Rose, the Founder of digg.com, topics range from Founding Internet Startups to operating tee houses.

  • revision3, Tom's Top 5
  • Ashort weekly show where host Tom Merritt presents a top 5 list of interesting gadgets or tech topics.

  • This Week in, This Week in Startups
  • A weekly program discussing how to practically build internet startups with Jason Calacanis and Guest Entrepreneurs.

  • YouTube, Autos and Vehicles, Top Gear
  • For those looking for something a little more light-hearted... Top Gear is THE car program – their crazy challenges and fun games are enough to get everyone interested, I mean who wouldn’t want to see what happens when you try to construct yourself a multi-storey caravan? Expect fire and destruction!
Of course, there are many more channels just waiting to be discovered...

Over and out from mixd.tv!
