FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions for the mixd.tv app

Q: I'm having problems with the mixd.tv app after using it for a while. How can I restore the mixd.tv app to the state of a fresh installation?
A: If you don't mind to loose all private playlists and videos, you can uninstall the app. When you are asked to remove videos, too - answer "Yes". Then you can reinstall the app, login and all your public and followed playlists will be synchronized back. This way you get a clean installation again.

Q: My hard drive is full. How can I remove old video files from the mixd.tv app cache?
A: mixd.tv caches videos in a folder (called "mixdtv") within your home directory. (eg.: C:\Documents and Settings\[$user]\mixdtv\) You can open it with your file browser. You must keep the "dj.db" database file and the "certificates" folder but can remove every other directory in there.

Q: Is there a version for Mac OSX?
A: We know, Apple users are pretty picky when it comes to user interface guidelines. So we are still working on the usability of the mixd.tv app before releasing an OSX Version. Expect a first test version soon.

Q: How can I prevent the mixd.tv app from starting automatically when Windows is booting?
A: The mixd.tv app runs in the system background to inform you of new videos in your playlist subscriptions. To prevent that you can remove it from the "Autostart Folder" in the Windows start menu. Click Start->Programms->AutoRun and right click on "mixd.tv". Then select delete.

Q: Why are some videos not playing?
A: There are multiple reasons why your videos could not be playing back.
1) The video file is not online anymore (some services are removing videos after a fixed time or after a complaint has been filed).
2) The video is not available in your region (some services limit the usage of there videos to a specific region of the world).
3) One of our access protocols can not be used on your system/network (the mixd.tv app is using different ways to access videos via HTTP, MMS, BitTorrent, etc. If one of those is not working in your environment other videos may still work).

Q: Is it possible to switch the video quality?
A: Current policy for the mixd.tv app is to play the best video quality available. This behavior is not configurable by the user for now. However on Vimeo we are compromising to lower quality to speed up downloading for now. We're planning to implement quality customization in later versions.

Q: Video results are changing their positon when a search is running. How can I keep results at a fixed position in the result list?
A: While video results are collected from different services, the mixd.tv app uses an algorithm to sort them by relevance. This way new videos will also be added before existing results. You can switch to the sort option "none" on the upper right area of the result list, to disable sorting.

Q: Can I add a specific YouTube video to the mixd.tv player?
A: Yes. You can paste (or drop using drag and drop) a YouTube URL into the search area.

Q: Can I get videos from the web browser to play in the mixd.tv app?
A: With the mixd.tv Firefox PlugIn installed, some videos can be detected and played in the mixd.tv app. However this is an experimental feature for now, expect it improve in later revisions.
